In Response To: Re: DEVAN ()
Many, many thanks for the wealth of information you have provided. You are correct that I read Paul H's information. About 18 months ago actually. And I do have both "Richard Simpson of Frederick County" and "Who is Richard Simpson". That is where I found Araminta Devan. I am also convinced that William, Daniel and Lydia Simpson are brother and sister. What is too much of a coincidence is Lydia Simpson has a son named Greenbery? Araminta Devan was contracted for 9 years to a Greenbury Hobbs by Sally Simpson. Catherine Simpson freed Araminta Devan in March 1811 after Sally died in 1808. The notice is posted in the Frederick Town Hearld 3/16/1811.
I still haven't been able to tie my Richard Devan to this family and yes I have the census for Cape Girardeau MO. Richard Devan was 69 in the 1870 census and listed his birthplace as Frederick, MD. There couldn't have been that many Devans in Frederick, MD in 1801 who owned slaves of were FPOC.
I will follow all the leads you provided me and once again; thank you so very very much!!!
