Theophile LaChapelle/Pierre Bellome

I'm doing some research to uncover the origins of my g-g-g grandfather, Theophile LaChapelle, who was a fpoc who lived in the Opelousas Area of St. Landry Parish. I first encounter him in the 1850 us census living in Opelousas as a 19 year mulatto laborer. What is so interesting about the census(I didnt notice it before) was that living with him was a 60 year old white woman recorded as being Mrs. Pierre Bellome. Obviously, the enumerator didnt know the name of the woman. But he did give me a clue. Her husband was a man named Pierre Bellome. I dont know why she is living with my g-g-g grandfather. Buts its interesting. She could be a relative.
Theophile married Julie Birotte, the daughter of Francois Birotte II and Marie Louise Guillory, in 1851. In every census after, he listed as mulatto or white. In the 1880 census, he listes his parents as being from Missouri. I thought that was interesting. Any help or advice anyone can give me in tracking the history of my g-g-g grandfather would be very helpful.
