Re: Green Flake
In Response To: Re: Green Flake ()
My ancestor, Norman Taylor, served with Green Flake in the Fourteenth group of Ten, established in April of 1847 just prior to the Mormon departure for the West. I found an account of the pioneer party in a web search for my own family history. I was intrigued that the word "colored" appeared next to Mr. Flake's name. I performed a Google search and found Mr. Flake's photo and some history. I had no idea that people of color were involved in the 1847 movement west, and am now curious about the Flake family and their accomplishments in the West. My mother's family, the Taylors, left the LDS in the 1860s and set up a livestock operation in southeast Utah. Our family roots run very deep in Utah. Best of luck in your search for more info on Green Flake.
