Theophile LaChapelle and Pierre Bellome
My g-g-g grandfather, Theophile LaChapelle first appears in the 1850 US CENSUS in St. Landry Parish, Louisiana as a 19 year old mulatto laborer. Whats interesting about the enumeration is that living with him is a white female named MRS. Pierre Bellome, age 60. Normally people who lived together were relatives. Sometimes they were not. But its very interesting that a older white female is living with him and also that he is listed as mulatto in every census up to 1880, except once when he was listed as white in 1870. I was wondering if anyone could help me find information about the identity of Pierre Bellome. Pierre Bellome must be her husband. And I believe knowing his identity will give me a clue to my ancestors origins. Also in 1880, Theo lists his parents as being from Missouri.
