Re: Robert Carter documents , Westmoreland County.

I happened to have several microfilms on loan last weekend from the Library of Virginia which mention Robert Carter and I took a few notes. You can get these and other records delivered to the nearest library to you which has a microfilm reader, courtesy of the Library of Virginia's interlibrary loan program.
Lancaster County Court Order Book 1713-1721

10 November 1714, page 77, the deed of Mark Attkins to Robert Carter for sundry Negroes acknowledged in court.
9 October 1717, page 210, Scipio a Negro boy belonging to Robert Carter Esq. is adjudged to be 7 years old.
12 April 1721, p.338, Joe a Negro boy Imported belonging to Robert Carter Esq. adjudged to be 11 years old.
338-9, Kaftey a Negro boy Imported belonging to Robert Carter Esq. adjudged to be 12.
339, Belinda a Negro Girle Imported belonging to Robert Carter Esq. adjudged to be 9.

Lancaster County Orders 1721-9,
p.59, 12 September 1722, On motion of Robert Carter Esq. setting forth that Madagasca Jack a Negro slave belonging to him hath for some time past lain out hid and lurked in swamps and woods and other obscure places both here and in Maryland killing hogs and committing other injurys to hid majesty's good subjects. And that he hath with great charge apprehended the said Negro...Order he have leave to cut off all the toes on one of the said Negroes feet in order to the reclaiming him and terrifying others from the like practices.
