Re: Henry Watts' freedom status
In Response To: Re: Henry Watts' freedom status ()
Hi Colleen, Are you familiar with a Major Thomas Watts of South Carolina? He received slaves from a Col. A. H. Gladden. The slaves were my gg grandmother Julia Ann Randall (Elliott), her sister Mary Goodwin (Gandy) and their mother (my ggg grandmother) Mary Randall Goodwin. I would really appreciate knowing any information you may have, if you came across the name in your research. Major Watts married a Harriet Gandy and ultimately passed away in Oktibbeha Co., MS. According to an unpublished autobiography of Dr. John M. Gandy (my gr grandfather's first cousin), my ggg grandmother was of French, Native American and black descent, however she showed no physical indications of being black. According to oral history my ggg grandmother came in from Paris to the Carolinas. I am sending this message to your attention b/c of your Watts heritage. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your consideration,
