I have only found 2 references to JP Ball, Sr.'s wives (I have been led to believe he was married several times, or at least there were several women with whom he was involved with or without the benefit of marriage, but cannot substantiate this) are:

1850 Marries by at least this year to a woman apparently named Virginia

Oct. 1862 Ball's wife (from whom he was already separated for 3 or 4 months) attacks employee Virginia Kelly with a cowhide, then attacks Ball with a carving knife; held on $500 bail

This is from information that a professor of African American Studies sent me. She was very hesitant to give me any information at all because she's researching JP Ball, Sr. for a book she intends to publish to attain tenure.

My primary interest is his Granddaughter, Alice, and I explained that to this professer, and that I wanted to know more about Alice's family. I have some information on the family, mostly about Alice, for their years in Honolulu, where JP, Sr. passed away. By the time they were living in Honolulu, there is no indication that there is a wife or woman in JP, Sr.'s life.
