I have file cabinets with surnames locations and general files. My surname files are one general one with history, etc. Then I have individual files for that surname. In addition to files, I have what I call my heritage book (nicely covered). In this book I have it divided into surnames. Under each surname, I start with the first direct ancestor, I have all vital records for that individual. I have family group sheets for that individual and another pertinent info. Then the next direct ancestor follows and so forth. The book starts with myself and my autobiography and vital data and family group sheet and pedigree chart. Each surname is handle in this manner.

Of course, I am behind on my filing. My four drawer legal file cabinet is full. I am ready to expand and continue my genealogy files to a two-drawer lateral file. I have two cardboard boxes of papers to be filed. And guess what, I have not collected enough!
