Missing St Tammany Parish Louisiana Records Mystery Solved. I checked with the parish clerk's office & the pages containing my grandparents marriage record & three other pages following were completely missing from the register. They were at a loss & until I called them were unaware the pages were gone. Well on March 31 a former archivist of the parish clerk's office was arrested for stealing records from the parish courthouse archives when he was employed there ten years ago. The documents filled a four drawer filing cabinet found in the home of his late wife. The current Clerk of the Court said that the stolen records were from every aspect of their records including important historical records, original maps, census records, election lists, land papers, pension applications, & an important collection of papers dealing with the will & succession of Horace L. Hunley who financed the CSS Hunley submarine. The man who took the records wrote a genealogy column for the New Orleans Times Picayune St. Tammany edition in the early 1990's & told police he took the records as historical references for his columns. The Clerk of the Court said that when police release the records back to her the archival staff will have a long job to determine where the pieces fit back into the collection as bits & pieces of files were stolen not entire files. So folks if you have been searching for records in the St. Tammany Parish Courthouse Archives don't give up the missing pieces you seek may be in with the recovered stolen records.
