() My family - BURGESS - migrated from Orange County, VA to Montgomery County, PA. There is a well known village in Mont. Co. called LaMott, which is named for Lucretia Mott, an abolitionist. There was a Military Camp there (Camp William Penn) which trained Colored troops for the Civil War. It became a large settlement of "colored" people thereafter. My family, (Burgess) settled there during the "great Migration", North, around 1915. Among the names I remember - friends of my family, were Tom and Mabel Manly, Simeon and Nancy Walden who were Free people of Color. I believe they also came from Virginia. Other names I remember are Swain, Triplett. In case you are wondering, I celebrated my 88th birthday in February.
