I keep my hard copies (work product) in binders that are categorized by Census, Vitals, Obits, etc.

Census are sorted by Census year, then State, then county, then alpha by family.

Vitals are sorted Birth, Marriage, Death chronologically for each type record. I have a binder of obits that is also chronological by alphabet.

Then I have a binder that is a mixture of items found in various other record types under various subject headings. ie; Arts, Athletics, Community, Religion, Slavery, Military and so forth. AS an example,this binder has copies of Freedom Papers, Land Records, Military Awards, Discharge, Pension & Service Records and so forth.
