Re: Revolutionary War and Other Questions
In Response To: Re: Revolutionary War and Other Questions ()
I am very interestead in the Hammond Genealogy- specifically the Hammond Family mentioned in Paul Heineggs FPOC book. I have hit a brick wall with my research at the point my family ties into the Hammond Line pre 1820. The family lines I am reserarching are the Banks, White, and Hammond Families. All pre 1820 FPOC. I am searching for a Charles Hammond born possibly mid 1700's in NC. He had a daughter named Dorcas Hammond- born Va or NC. Dorcas was in Green County, KY in 1818 whereas she gave birth to my 4th Gr Grandmother, Jane White. Dorcas Hammond-White migrated along with her in laws and other FPOC families to a settlement in Southern Indiana (Salem, IN- Washington County) around 1826-1828. This settlement in Washing County/Salem, IN was home to several other FPOC families (1800-1850) such as the Goins, Christy, and Alfred Scott family of Cumberland, NC. Also one Moses Pettyford, son of Esther Pettyford born FPOC in Granville, NC settled in 1826 in Salem, IN and quite possibly related to the Nancy Pettiford who may have married Fredrick Hammons in Granville, NC in 1802 (found in Paul's Hammond summary) Many FPOC families referenced in Paul's book can be traced via migration to Southern Indiana during the 1800-1830 time period ca (Parker, Revells, Newby, etc) In the late 1800's the Grandchildren of Dorcas Hammond attempted to be recognized as Cherokee and provided an affidavit that stated that Jane Banks was the daughter of Dorcas White who was the Daughter of Charles Hammond a full Cherokee Indiana. (The family had migrated from Indiana to KS/OK border by this time). I personally do not believe Charles Hammond was Cherokee, however do believe him to have been of Native American descent and quite possibly somewhere tied into the FPOC Hammonds of NC. The Banks family information and a family picture I provided is on line at Paul Heinegg's. FPOC website. Jane White-Banks in this picture would have been the daughter of Dorcas Hammond. There is a Dorcas Hammond provided in Paul's Hammond information listed as a daughter of Samuel Hammond? Any infromation on this Dorcas Hammond would be appreciated. I have not come upon a Charles Hammond reference that ties into my family anywhere thus any information on the FPOC Hammonds- especially any who migrated into Kentucky and/or later Indiana would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
