Dipping snuff is not yet extinct. My mom, two of my aunts and grandmother (born and bred in NC) all dipped snuff and -- my sister who learned from them as a child, at age 63 STILL dips snuff to this day. She never smoked, although some of the rest of my sisters and cousins do/did.
