Dunmore
In Response To: Re: Virginia Free Negro Registers ()
My ancestor Lawrence Dunmore was born circa 1785 in Virginia or Kentucky. He was "attatched" to James Barlow, who was born in Virginia in 1757. Dunmore traveled and settled in NE Louisiana with Barlow abt 1806. Lore claims Lawrence was Barlow's son, and he was freed by Barlow in the 1820's. I have not been able to prove anything on Lawrence's mother, and cannot isolate a woman in Barlow's Louisiana household of the right age to have been Lawrence's mother. I've always had an interest in Lawrence's use of Dunmore as a last name---and wondered if it was indicative of anything in particular, or had anything to do with a mother who used Dunmore---or ties in, some way, to Lord Dunmore and his promise of freedom to blacks who supported the British? I would love to make contact with you---perhaps we connect? Please contact me at shirleyroot2@yahoo.com
