In Response To: Where is the Family of Ephemie Lemelle and Charles ()
Hi John, Thanks for coming over here from Rootsweb (grin) and posting this...and welcome to Afrigeneas! There are a number of researchers here who have LA as a focus, and I'm sure that if we all put our minds to it - we can help locate the descendants of Euphemie Lemelle MARAN. Would you share with us some of the places you have searched...I did a very brief search through some of the census records I have at my disposal last night, but didn't find much that was helpful, on a first pass. The girls of course - probably married and will be more difficult to trace under the MARAN surname. I wonder if after all the notoriety of a court case and legal battle, if Euphemie either left the state, or changed her last name. She surely must have washed her hands of her double dealing relatives. This is an important story that you have shared with us - pointing to the "warts" on our history - not all family members actively supported other's freedoms - and greed is too often one of the deadly sins humans fall prey to. You have certainly piqued my interest! There are quite a few resources you can avail yourself of right here at Afrigeneas - including the archives of past posts, which contain a lot of material on LA. Let's hear other folks suggestions - many people here are far more experienced than I am at this type of research - and see what they have to say. Again, welcome, and here's hoping we can help you ferret out the rest of the story, Denise Messages In This Thread
