FPOC's WERE counted on the Census from 1820-1840. The URL below has examples of those forms. At least there was a "place" for the family breakout for those Census years. The HOH would be listed in the far left column (Name) of the form, but his/her family composition would be under the "Free Colored Persons" columns.
