Has anyone done any research on, or encounterd the African-American community of New Guinea in Northeastern Ohio? I seek more information.

A few surnames associated with the church leadership there were: DAY, BRACY, WHITFIELD, HAMLIN, DAVIS.

Hello Camille,

A fellow member of AAGGMV has done "some" work on this area of Stark County, Ohio. Her mother is listed on the membership roster, but unfortunately no email address. I will see if I can connect with her and get back to you.

The names they are primarily working with are DAY & WHITFIELD. It seems Stark county was where these families initially settled in Ohio. They later moved south and west to Logan County, Ohio. Logan is the county just north of where your HAMLIN family was also located.

A couple of early records that may be of interest:
Marriage...Lucinda Whitfield & Levi Stanhope 29 Jan 1857, Urbana, OH

...Elizabeth Day & Abraham Whetsel 26 Aug 1875, Logan Co., OH (?)
