Lewis Sheridan Leary's wife was named Mary. She is said to be Langston Hughes' grandmother. Lewis was her first husband. Lewis died as a member of John Brown's crew. Below is a website with some information.

In the book, Charles Chestnutt, Author, by Cliff Thompson, (copywright 1992), states that Charles' father, Andrew, met and married Anne Maria Sampson, daughter of Chloe Sampson. Anne Maria Sampson Chestnutt was Charles' mother. After his mother's death, his dad married an Mary Ochiltree.
