CONWAY/CONAWAY..... Loudoun Co. Va

Hello All,

In helping a cousin to trace the wife of her great-grandfather we find this information on her death certificte.

Name...Elizabeth ADAMS
Sex....Female
Color or Race...WHITE
Date of Birth....June 30, 1828
Marital Staus....Married
Birthplace.....LOUDOUN CO., VA
Occupation......Housewife
Name of Father...Captain CONAWAY
Birthplace of Father....VA
Maiden Name of Mother....Harriett SUTHERS
Birthplace of Mother...VA
Date of Death....Mch 8, 1911
Place of Death....Findlay, Hancock County, OH

We also have a copy of the Marriage Record for David ADAMS & Elizabeth Jane CONWAY, dated 5 Sep 1848, Springfield, Clark County, OH. We have Census records of this ADAMS family from 1850-1920. She dying in 1911, her husband 1913.

On my Family Home Page, URL below, we have a photo of David Adams and his family following Elizabeth's death. There is also a photo of David as an UGRR operator, with two fellow conductors. And an interview of David by a cohort of Wilbur H. Siebert, the Underground
Railroad historian.

Our search...Who were the CONWAY/CONAWAY and SUTHERS families? When, how and by whom were they freed? We know the CONWAY/CONAWAY to be FPOC's, residing in Ohio, as early as the 1840's and not "white" as stated on Elizabeth's DC.

Any help and/or clues in this area would be greatly appreciated.

Art Thomas
