I located the family members,in 1870 they were in the household with a Thomas Bowman & Mary A. Bowman,the children are Horace, George and Clementine Bateast. I believe Mary A. may have married Thomas after the death of her first husband. Only guessing, as to why the different surnames of the children. I was hoping to locate the slaveowner. The John Batest and son,you mentioned, was black on the 1860 census born in France abt.1798. Don't know if he is family?
