There are several DAR members here at Afrigeneas - do a searc here on this forum and on main forum and there are quite a few posts.

I have rev war ancestors - but not on the FPOC side however. My FPOC were collateral ancestors - most of my direct African-American ancestors were slaves.

There are several folks here that research Cannady (and all spellings thereof). Have you looked at the surname database yet?

I too have become a history buff - and thankfully my graduate studies covered a lot of AA history - but having my own folks as "real" examples of history has made me even more dedicated to historical research.
