Alma I am reposting this message and adding a link to the census of 1840. Hi Alma: You are certainly appreciated for all the work you've done in supporting AA genealogy and history. So I do hope that I can help you. You may have access to the Spanish Census 1784 to 1820. If not I've found several listings for Gomez. Francisco is one of them. In the 1820 census, Francisco Gomez is listed 21 years old, single and a farmer born in Lousiana. He is living with a widow named Rosalia Perez aged 31 also born in Louisiana. It says that Francisco is her son.
The other Gomez entries are Manuel Gomez 50 years old, a farmer, born in Asturias Spain and married to Maria Bonifay. They were a prolific family and the census notes that they married into the Gonzalez family. The names Gomez, Gonzalez are also associated with people of color. The 1840 census lists both white and (pardo), mu and black) Gomez families along with a Gomas. I believe that Lorenzo is listed in the 1840 census too. I will also search my records of various court records and the St Michael's Benevolent Association. Please let me know if you need further help. K Wyer Lane
