FPOC in south MS

Were FPOC likely to appear on censuses, tax lists & such in the south MS. counties of Hancock & Pearl River? I know the families were there from the early 1820's onward. As they were not Catholic would there be any other church records? They moved back & forth across the Pearl River line between LA & MS as the moment suited them & by the late 1880's were identifying themselves as white or creole depending on who was doing the talking. Fortunately for their descendants some of them managed to get photographed (i.e. tintypes or ambertypes) so we know what they looked like (definately mixed-race people). We would like a paper trail to help fill in the blanks. Any help would be welcome.
