Is anyone here familiar with the "NICHOLS" family from Highland Co Ohio? My g-Grandfather was Harlan Nichols, his dad was: Squire Nichols, his dad was: State Nichols (possibly Statan or Starland)Nichols.

I've read a few of the book out on the Ohio Melungeons. It's been very confusing to me as to whether they are Black/White/Mullato? Census records seems to change through the years. I can't figure out how they can change colors so often during their life. (?)

I know that they were born in VA and KY. And settled in Highland Co Ohio. If anyone here can help me, or has any information...boy would I EVER appreciate it. I've searched so much and so long, I'm nearly in a computer coma! Thank you!
