Thank you Sandra for your response. The John s/o John and Nannett would have been a cousin of my John Chastang. The name John was used repeatedly within the Chastang clan, so I am having a hard time find the information I need. I have no idea what my gggrandfather's mother's name was so I am running into problems, his father was Auguste/Augustin (aka Ogive) Chastang b.1788 in Mobile. I have a copy of Auguste baptismal record (in Spanish).

The first time I find my gggrandfather is on the 1880 census, married with children, in Jackson County, Ms. I also have his death cert and Civil war pension file,but no parent info is given.

Therefore, I'm really need a lookup in the Black Baptismal records in Mobile for information on John Baptiste Chastang b.1835-1839.
