Hello Anne, First, this forum is for all FPOC in any state, so your query is appropriately posted here. Second, do you have 1850 Census data on your John Chastang, born circa 1832-1837? On the chance that you do not, I am posting info found at ancestry.com now. "John Chestang
He lived in the household of John Chestang, a 57-year-old farmer. Other residents were Nanette, age 56 (or 36); a female, possibly Camille, age 17; Edward, age 13; Isabel, age 11; and an 89-year-old female whose name appears to begin with an M, all carrying the CHESTANG surname, all mulatto. The following page has more CHASTANG households. The 1860 Census for the Northern District of Mobile, AL, Series: M653 Roll: 17 Page: 136-137, at Heritage Quest shows 29 Chastangs living in Households 50-54, including several with the given name John or initial J. There is a Louisa CHASTANG, head of household with five FPOC including herself, and 14 slaves in the 1830 Alabama Census. Do you need/want additional Census information? Regards,
