I didn't check Granville County in 1830 and 1840, but there was a Parker family from Gates County, North Carolina, and adjoinging Nansemond County, Va., in 1820: Samuel, born before 1776, head of a Nansemond County household of 2 "free colored;" Elisha, born before 1776, 3 "free colored" in 1820; and Milly Parker, born before 1776, 7 "free colored" in 1820 [Nansemond census pages 71, 74A, and 79].
