You've certainly given me a lot to "chew" on. I will check each and every resource you've mentioned.

One very interesting aspect of your post is in placing the possible "manumission" within the context of a time I hadn't given much tought to in my research "the south in the 1830's". Because of all that was happening during that period and what you've pointed out perhaps this "wall" won't be as tough as I had tought.
