I hate to disappoint you, but this William Goyens was a Melungeon, not black and he never was a slave. He even had papers to prove this. If you will look online you can find info on him.

He was the GGreat uncle of my Grfather William S. Goynes. Had/Hadley Goynes was my GrFather's uncle, who raised my GrFather. GrPa called Had his Dad. Hadley received a wagon and horse and I don't know if anything else as an heir to William Goyens, the TX friend of Sam Houston.

I am honored that he was an ancestor. I am also trying to find out more info on my Goynes line.
