We are not responsible for the deeds our ancestors - we all have ancestors who did things that we might find reprehensible, but that is a really not what we should be doing - judging.
We are only responsible to do the research - piece together the histories and leave judgement out of the equation. As soon as judgement gets into the picture we begin to paint subjective portraits, based on our own system of ethics. Slavery and slave ownership is still a touchy issue, and here at Afrigeneas we encourage a dialogue between descendants of slaves and of those who owned them because ultimately it is only within the context of that dialogue that we will be able to make new discoveries and piece together our mutual histories.

I am in contact with quite a few researhers who had ancestors who owned my ancestors. I have provided them with information that has broadened their perspective on history, and they have done the same for me.
