Does anyone have exprerience researching this type of record?
I found this in "North Carolina Slaves and Free Persons of Color: Burke, Linclon and Rowan counites" by William L. Byrd and John H. Smith
"Rowan county Septr. 6th March Term 1842
The Grand Jury present Elijah Volentine a free man of colour for intermarrying & cohabitating with Nancy a slave of Sarah Brown, Witness Sarah Brown & Geo. Brown
Also Susan Volentine a free woman of colour for intermarrying and cohabiting with Isaac a man slave of Wm Thomasons, Witness James Gwen & Saml. Martin
Also Betsy Wallis a free woman of colour for intermarrying & cohabiting with Angus a negro Slave the property of the late Nancy McCorkele Dec'd, Witness Jacob Correll & John C. Miller"
I was wondering if all slave states had these type of records?
