The only possibility I've been able to locate so far has been in Grant County, Kentucky. In the 1830 Census, a white slaveholder named H. B. smith held two male slaves and one female slave between the ages of 10 and 24. Do you know whether your Horace B. Smith was born free? If not, do you know anything about his manumission?
