I wanted to inquire if someone else may have access to the FPOC register to see if there is a Richard Goode from South Hill, VA Mecklenburg County,listed? I am not sure if he resided in Mecklenburg during 1809-1865. He,I believe he is my gggggrandfather. I wanted to know if he was free and what planation he was born/living on? The 1880 census he was said to be age 79 and a widow [page 233a]. I attempted to try and find his birth place still working on it. I am curious as to where his wife was? Are we to assume that when one indicates they are widowed that there spouse has died or could there spouse be residing elsewhere and it is just easier to be listed as a widow?
We(other family members) have been doing our genealogy for a long time. However I(personally) just began this side of my family. I have plenty of names and no dates to go along with the names(list was given to me from another relative). Since I know that Thomas and Margaret(Moore)of South Hills [1880 census page 231a,not far from Richard]are my relatives, I thought Richard is likely to be his father.
