Re: FPOC - Here Comes De Judge!

Barbara,

I hear you.

When we're searching for our Ancestors, especially African Americans, we need all the tools, hints and clues we can find.

We need to know history; we need to know the people who shaped that history. We need to unearth documents, acts, treaties, and laws. And we need to understand them, the people who made them, and how the population dealt with them - in their time.

If a judge (as in this case) can set policy as regards to race and class, we need to know that. We might suppose that the federal census marshalls and enumerators were affected or influenced by these policies. Our Ancestors certainly reacted to these laws - those on the books and off the books - the best way they could under the 'peculiar institution'.

As detectives, we need to be able to view and review our data objectively and analytically. I know that this forum has, for me, made me look at some of my brick walls
differently.

Peace
"Guided by the Ancestors"
