Thanks for that information, I would be interested in finding out more about that will of John Ward Sr. freeing 136 slaves. Is there anyway I can find out the names of those slaves? My gggrandfather Anthony Clark was born abt 1815 in Virgina so I assume he was born in slavery. By 1839 he turns up in Jefferson County Ohio, so I assume he got his freedom and migrated to Ohio. He could be one of the 136 slaves, I hope.
