Well my belief is that many FPOC who passed into white society did so as a survival thing, not becasue they thought they were better than their darker skinned brothers...much like the Indians who could pass for white...When a mother has a child, she will do what she has to do to protect that child and give it a future...and due to the circumstances of the times, passing for white was the best way to survive to HAVE a future...slavery of the body didn't mean slavery of the mind in all cases...it wasn't that people wanted their children to be white...they wanted them to survive to a time where there would be more freedom...and since people who were white were running around enslaving those with darker skins..the best way to freedom of a sort was to produce children who would be able to pass as white...again, not becasue it was a preferred skin color or becasue they thought white skinned people were superior...but because it was the only way to freedom for many....
