Have you found Jean Baptiste Raphael in the 1880 Census? He's listed with his wife, Amelie, four sons--Joseph (age 6), Pierre (4), Felix(3), and Ernest (1)--and one daughter, Amelie (age 2). There is also an adopted orphan, Eugene Osborne (age 15), in the household.

Pierre and his family are in the 1920 Census in Police Jury Ward 7, St. James Parish. In 1930, they seem to be listed as Peter Rifel and family.
