I'm grinning at your "Caution" because I recently discovered some marriage records for a family in Loudoun County Va - who went out of their local neighborhood to be married - were married, and listed as white and listed as white upon the birth of two children, and then are back as mulattos after the birth of the third (heh heh)

So beware of birth and marriage records too...
