I agree K. I think it is also important to remember that some of the Africans brought here had been "previously owned" on the continent by other Africans, or their parents were. And some who got snagged later on - and brought here as slaves, had been slave owners. I know all of the debates about slavery in Africa versus the system in the US - however I'm not sure that given the context - and the objective surrounding conditions - that some of the FPOC who owned slaves saw anything "odd" or morally wrong about participating in the economic system that they were a part of. Frantz Fanon talks about the psychology of oppression - and how the oppressed will take on the same role as the oppressor in "Black Skin/White Masks" - it is a chilling syndrome that repeats itself in each era.
