Yep Kathryn, I see the Lindsey's on the listing. In researching the former "Randolph Slaves" from Charlotte County, VA, 380+ in number, who were freed in 1846 and settled in the Miami Valley of Ohio I acquired a copy the listing from the book you mentioned....."County of Charlotte Virginia...Rich Indeed".

The listing is for FREED NEGROES and is taken from the Book of Registers of Free Negroes and Mulattoes which is filed in the Clerk's Office.

There are 931 individuals registered as being freed and the dates are from 7 June 1794 to 4 April 1865. The listing, an abstract, contains some very useful genealogical information. Information includes..Name, Complexion, Age @ registration, Born Free or Slave, Date Registered.

The name in many instances is surname & given name. There are some familial relationships listed such as wife, husaband son/daughter of.

An example.....Henry Cozens, son of Jacob & his wife Sukey, free person of Colour, Complexion M, age 27, born free, registered 9 Dec 1818.

The "Randolph Slaves" are numbers 215-596. The listing is in sequence by date freed 1794-1865. If anyone has folks who they believe were from this area and are thought to be FPOC's I will gladly do a lookup.

Oh, before I forget, the records on file at the Clerk's Office contain much more detailed and informative data. If you find relatives on the list a request for the registration file (?) is highly recommeded. Don't tell'em I sent ya :)
