Re: Goin/Gowens etc and Order Books
In Response To: Re: Goin/Gowens etc and Order Books ()
I just got the Fall/Winter 2003 edition of Central Virginia Heritage publication of the Central VA Genealogical Association, it contained an article of transcriptions of "Revolutionary WAr, War of 1812 Pension References in the Albermarle Order, Law Order and Minute Book 1800-1900", this was compiled by Sam Towler. It included information on SHERARD GOING.
Going, Sherard, a free black man, makes his application to obtain a pension for REvolutionary WAr. 9 Oct. 1828 (1822-1831 Law Order Book page 309). Upon satisfactory evidence that Sherod Going was a pensioner of the U.S. at $96 a year, was a resident of Albemarle, and died in Albemarle Nov 23, 1837. He left a widow whose name is Susan. 7 May 1838 (1836-1838 Minute Book page 350). The court certifies that Sussannah Goings was a pensioner of the U.S. at the rate of $80 a year, was a resident of Albemarle, and died on Jan 14, 1850. She sleft the folling children: Henderson Going (blank space...) Given 6 Jan 1868 (1866-1868 Minute Book page 232).
