Re: Bedford County Register of Free Negroes
In Response To: Bedford County Register of Free Negroes
() Paul, thank you so very much for this update......I think you've helped me greatly in my areas of research. Your section 1820-1860 includes many surnames that settled in this area of Ohio in the 1820-1860 timeframe, particularly Goff, Moss & Shavers. AND the given names match folks found in my database. An example, Drury Moss, yellow complexion, 5'8 3/4", born free. I have a Drury Moss who married a Julia Ann Bird...30 Apil 1851, in Shelby Cunty, Ohio. They were living in the area of Rumley, a black settlement established by the Goings brothers in 1837. I also have a John Goff married to Roxanna Sullivan 1 June 1826 in Springfield, Clark County, OH --- Persons of Color Daniel Chavers & Irena King marry 1855 in Urbana, Champaign County, OH. These are marriages in the neighboring counties of Champaign, Clark & Shelby, all within a 35 mile radius. Thank You, Art Thomas
