Re: Estate Inventory of John Conner, Free African

Hello Toni,
Thank you for such an informative post. I did DNA testing with 23 and me and was surprised to learn I had at least two 100% African relatives in the late 1700’s - early 1800’s. Nigerian and Congolese. I am the son of John Conner Jr’s daughter. John Jr died in 1956.
Grandfather was always extremely dark. We were always told we were Italian. My DNA profile didn’t indicate any Italian genes. I decided to start researching the Conner line. The 1850 census listed Isaac And Susanah Conner as Mulattos , so I knew I was on the correct path.
I was really stoked to learn from the census they were free even before the Civil War. Not too happy to learn they were slave owners. Would really like to know when this family was freed, if ever enslaved at all. I am stuck at John Conner born in 1807. Any tips would be appreciated. Thank you for what you have provided so far. It was crazy googling John Conner’s will , and finding your post.
