Re: "Freetown" in Brunswick Co., VA in 1810

I have a hunch that the origin of Freetown was comprised of individuals freed by Mary and Benjamin Jones in 1801. Deeds of manumission from the two can be found in Brunswick County Deed Book 18 pp 112-113 recorded 23 Feb 1801 which freed 37 individuals ranging in age from 56 to 1, men women and children. In their wills the Jones siblings left them land as well. See Brunswick Will book 6 p. 334 rec 22 June 1801 for Benjamin's will and Will Book 7, p. 115 for Mary Jones' will rec in Sept 1805. You might be able to check the names in the 1810 census versus those named in the emancipation deeds. Paul has an abstract of the deeds of emancipation in his on-line compilation of those emancipated after 1782, I believe--Mick
