Re: Choctaw drama: Freed Bean slaves

Hello Lisa -

This was my first try at asking the question, and I chose the wrong forum. I got the answer a bit later from Angela Walton-Raji, the moderator of the African-Native American genealogy forum on this site, and it's absolutely fascinating. You can find my post and her answer on that forum, with a link to a very long and detailed article on the subject.
Here's the link: Daniel F. Littlefield, Jr., and Mary Ann Littlefield, “The Beams Family: Free Blacks in Indian Territory,” The Journal of Negro History, January, 1976, p. 17-35, http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~texlance/my/beams/beamsfamily.htm.

Unfortunately that link is not working at the moment, because it's part of the rootsweb.com site, and that whole site is down for repairs for I don't know how long. Luckily for me, I got all the relevant information out of the article before it disappeared. If you'd like me to send you my sort summary - a mere two typed pages - email me and I'll be glad to do it.

Carla
