Re: LaForce...Help connect the dots?

Linda,

Thank you for your response!! Over the years, at least the last 10-12, I have been in contact with several lines of Rene LaForce descendants and they have all been very helpful.

My "burning" question(s) is how did the enslaved persons (my ancestors) come into the possession of Rene & Agnes (Moseby) LaForce? Were/was Betty purchased by Rene & Agnes following their marriage? Could Betty have been brought into the marriage as a gift to Agnes Moseby? Was Betty and other enslaved persons inherited from the parents of either Rene or Agnes?

Without speculating there seems to a closeness associated between Betty, her children and grandchildren with the LaForce family that might go beyond the "slave owning" relationship. Why the plea for help from Gen. George Washington thru the Governor of Canada for the return of her slaves in 1782? Why the law suit an plea in 1814 following the War of 1812 against Britian/Canada .. again for the return of the LaForce slaves?

Thanks in advance for any help from any source that might assist me in resolving the above questions.

Art Thomas
