John Queen of Anne Arundel County Md
I am trying to find the parents of my great-great grandfather John Queen of Anne Arundel County MD. I only have records of him in the 1900 census with his partner Mary (Cassandra/Cassie) Holland and their four children Peter, John H, Kattie (Kathrine), and Florence. They never married but she took his name after the 1910 census, so did their children they had together (they moved to Trenton, Mercer, New Jersey in 1915. On the census record his birthdate is listed as 185? (the transcriber changed the last number a few times, so it looks like 1,9, or and his age is listed as 50 and Mary's is listed as 36 (her age changed up and down 5 years throughout census records). It also says that he was born in Maryland, and also he is listed as widowed and she is listed as single. I found one John Queen that was born in 1850 but, I do not think it is the right one, and there are MANY John Queen's born in the 1850's and early 1860's.
I was wondering if anyone can help me find the correct John Queen. The closest I came to a John Queen that did not appear in the 1900 census that could possibly be him was a John Queen born 1862 and lived in Anne Arundel County MD, District 2 in 1880 and lived next to a James Queen, which is where my John Queen lived in the 1900 Census and he (my John Queen) also lived next to a James Queen (about five pages over).
-I posted this in this section because I know that the African American Queen's of Maryland were free people of color.
