Betsey Lyle, Moore's Ordinary, Virginia

I am currently researching the Lyle family of Prince Edward County, Virginia. The earliest Lyle in the line was a Betsey Lyle who was born in about the year 1830 in Prince Edward County, Virgina.

Betsey Lyle first appears in the 1850 census in the Poor House run by Harwood Cary. She is listed with her year old infant daughter, Josephine. Her next appearance in the records is in the 1860 census taken at Moore's Ordinary. She and several minor Lyle children were included in the household of William F. Scott(e) farmer and constable.

While I have yet to figure out what became of William F. Scott, Betsey married a John Eggleston and she and her children appear in his household in the 1870 census. Marriage records of several of her younger children suggest that William F. Scott was the father of at least her younger children and that he was alive until about 1867.

My question for you all, is this the proverbial brick wall in my research of Betsey Lyle? Her nearby neighbor was the Methodist minister, Matthew Dance. Betsey Lyle apparently named one of her sons in his honor. It's an interesting context that I would like to flesh out.

Can anyone point me to resources that may be helpful in this research?

Best wishes,

Inez
