"Did I see from this thread that there are in fact 2 Sherwood/Sherod Goins? I think my ancestral line runs through Washington Joshua Goins b. 1813, son of J. Bazzil Goins b. 1780, son of Sherwood Goins who was married to Ruth Bennett."

This is tricky so I will try to do my best with what information I have on hand.

The Sherrod Goings that I have come to know through documents from the Albemarle County Historical Society (they publish The Magazine of Albemarle County History) and Albemarle County Courthouse, has a son Sherrod Jr.. I have Sherrod's estate filed in Albemarle County and it list his children and Sherrod Jr. is among them. People with access to Courthouse records in Albemarle say that they believe that Sherrod ( the father) is the son of Agnes of Louisa. Other than Paul Heinegg's work, I haven't come across any other documents to prove or disprove anything more in the case of the Goins/Goings

The Magazine of Albemarle County History which has a sundry of Goins/Goings in it is Volume 53 and was published in 1995. The article "A Just and True Account, Two 1833 Parish Censuses of Albemarle County Free Blacks" was written by Ervin L. Jordan, Jr..
