I came upon this thread because I am also looking for information on J Bazzil Goins b. 1780 in Virginia married to Betsy, whose father I believe to be Sherwood Goins. Did I see from this thread that there are in fact 2 Sherwood/Sherod Goins? I think my ancestral line runs through Washington Joshua Goins b. 1813, son of J. Bazzil Goins b. 1780, son of Sherwood Goins who was married to Ruth Bennett. Do you have any information on this thread of the family? I've been reading today about Sherwood Goins, son of Agnes, and I had not previously heard of any African heritage in my family, but nothing surprises me . Hearing though in another historical account about "Basil Going, William Going and the orphans of Sherwood Going were successful in the Georgia gold land lottery of 1832" made me question if I had the right family, since it appeared that this lottery was only open to white citizens.
